The Brances of Ubuntu Freedom

The Principles of Freedom

The Principles of Freedom were developed through a 13-month journey of collective visioning, with African and other Indigenous peoples gathering twice weekly to articulate a shared understanding of liberation. These principles invite you to imagine beyond current constraints, to envision possibilities that transcend the frameworks of white supremacy, capitalism, and colonialism. Rather than creating new ideas, we uncovered ancestral wisdom that speaks to a vision many already share—perhaps including you—providing language for truths your spirit has always known.

Each principle represents an interconnected lane of transformation work, helping you find alignment with others on similar paths while understanding your connection to the broader movement. They serve as both aspiration and practical guidance, allowing us to measure our efforts and hold ourselves accountable as we build new systems. Whether you’re drawn to food sovereignty, community health, or spiritual practice, these principles offer a framework that connects personal transformation with collective liberation, creating cohesion across diverse approaches to freedom-building.

Every Principle has System Ideas, Past & Present Examples, and Examples of Progress. Click the buttons to review them.

Food Is Freedom

The earth provides all nutritional needs of all life forms freely. Every community ensures all members have the knowledge and ability to receive their food while taking responsibility for providing the nutritional sustenance every member requires. Our connection to growing and sharing food nourishes both body and spirit.

Housing Is Sacred Space

Every dwelling is a sanctuary, each structure a testament to community care. We honor the right of each person to create and maintain their home. Our collective flow is strong because every member has shelter that honors the earth, nurtures their spirit, and grounds their purpose.

Every Individual's Health is Community Wealth

Wellness flows through our connections. Each person’s vitality strengthens the whole, as we nurture emotional, physical, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Joy is our birthright. Through caring for each individual, we enhance our collective power.

We are the Environment is Us

Our breath is wind, our blood, rivers, our bones are stones. We acknowledge animal species as nations with full rights to their habitats. In caring for Earth, we care for ourselves. As receivers we move within the bounty of gratitude. Through harmony with nature, we unlock infinite abundance.

Collective Wisdom Guides Our Power

The profound development of each person reveals creations, innovations and solutions that make our world a wonder. We honor all ways of knowing ancestral, experiential, intuitive, observed. The flow of knowledge through our collective consciousness strengthens our collective light.

Our Gifts are Our Currency

Every breath we take is an exchange where we receive from and contribute to life. Our creativity, smiles, listening, building, intellect and ingenuity are born with us as seeds to be watered by community. By honoring flow and sharing our gifts, we create endless abundance.

Our Differences Make Us Beautiful, Brilliant and Powerful

Multiple ways of being and existing enhance our collective strength. Each person’s unique perspective, abilities, and needs deepens our understanding, empathy, and humanity. Through celebrating and centering our distinctions and vulnerabilities, we weave a resilient fabric of community.

A Strong Community is Safe

We nurture environments of trust and understanding, where conflicts transform into deeper bonds. Our peace flows from inward and relational safety. All members learn arts of defense, protection, and transformation, ensuring our freedom by staying ready and willing. We maintain and secure our communal harmony and spaces where all can flourish.

The Core of Community is Connection

Our relationships weave the fabric of freedom. When we nurture every member’s access to their gifts and develop in each all needed skills, we are empowered to exchange support and harbor collective care and power. Self-reliance fused with interdependence deepens our bonds and strengthens our shared liberation.

Our Resource Ecosystem Nurtures Life

All exchanges honor the cycle of reciprocity. We measure prosperity by the thriving of people and planet. Through collaboration with nature we receive resources and engage them with wisdom, perpetuating abundance for all beings.

Water is Life's Flow

Sacred, expansive and alive, water connects all. It is a communor, a purifier, a conductor, a hydrator, an irrigator. We honor and protect the rivers, oceans, rains and springs that sustain us, guide us, move us, rock us, hold us, an cleanse us. Through caring for water’s ways, we maintain life’s circulation.

Spirit Guides Our Freedom

Ancestral wisdom flows through our ceremonies, traditions, and intuitive knowing. We honor the sacred in all paths, reclaiming and sharing our indigenous and ancestral ways of connecting with spirit. Through spiritual practice, we embark with certainty, remember our wholeness, and live magically.

The Branches of Ubuntu Freedom

Interconnected Initiatives

Ubuntu Freedom operates through interconnected initiatives that work together to create transformative change at different scales.

These initiatives work together in a regenerative cycle.

UFree Digital Community

UFree is a mobile-first digital ecosystem that connects and supports freedom-building activities across communities. More than just another social network, UFree provides practical tools for organizing, resource sharing, and collective action. The platform includes:

•Campaign organizing tools for coordinating community actions
•Resource sharing systems for mutual aid and skill exchange
•Geo-mapping features to connect local initiatives
•Educational content aligned with freedom principles
•Community forums for strategy and support

The platform serves as the connective tissue between different Ubuntu Freedom initiatives, allowing communities to share knowledge, coordinate actions, and build solidarity across distances.

The Church of the Revolution

The Church of the Revolution creates physical gathering spaces in urban communities, providing infrastructure for local organizing while drawing on familiar cultural frameworks. These centers serve as:

•Congregation spaces for community gathering and learning
•Political education and deprogramming centers
•Healing and wellness hubs
•Strategic coordination points for local organizing
•Cultural preservation and celebration spaces
•Resource centers for community needs

By adapting a recognizable institutional structure and infusing it with liberatory practices, these spaces make radical organizing accessible to broader communities. They provide entry points for those new to movement work while supporting deeper engagement over time.

Seed & Harvest Immersions

Seed & Harvest creates immersive experiences where people can live the world we’re building while developing skills to manifest it. Through work-learn-reflect retreats, participants:

•Gain practical skills in sustainable building and farming
•Study and embody the Principles of Freedom
•Build relationships across communities
•Develop leadership capacities
•Connect with ancestral wisdom and practices
•Contribute to developing liberation infrastructure

The program works toward establishing permanent Liberation Centers that demonstrate sustainable, autonomous living while serving as hubs for movement building and skills sharing.

The Care Space Project

The Care Space Project creates a comprehensive network of healing resources for movement organizers, managed through a member-owned cooperative of revolutionary organizations. The project recognizes that sustainable liberation work requires dedicated infrastructure for rest, renewal, and care. Through a secure platform similar to Airbnb, the network provides:

•Spaces of Respite
•Healing services such as bodywork and mental health support
•Access to events like concerts and recreation activities
•Nature communing opportunities and community building
•Instruction for cultural competency and trauma-informed care

By embodying mutual aid and transformative justice principles while providing essential respite for those engaged in liberation work, the Care Space Project demonstrates how we can sustain our movements while living the values we’re fighting for.
